2009 Variety Trial Data NOW AVAILABLE
The 2009 Sunflower Variety Trial data is now available for all members to view. With the recent amendments put in place by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency on July 8th, 2009, the registration requirements for sunflowers have been amended in such that merit based testing is no longer required. With this amendment, non-ornamental sunflowers no longer require a recommending committee, as there is no merit consideration and no pre-market assessment requirement. Therefore, as of December 31st, 2009 the Manitoba Sunflower Committee has dissolved and will no longer conduct Co-op testing in the future.
The National Sunflower Association of Canada has agreed to continue conducting the MB Sunflower Post-Registration Trials in conjunction with MCVET and for 2010 will have 6 trial sites around Manitoba along with a disease evaluation trial. Companies interested in testing hybrids in 2010 should contact the NSAC office at (204) 745-6776 for information.
