NSAC has released an updated and revised Sunflower Production Guide. The guide will provide growers with an education tool touching on crop production issues with sunflowers including an update weed, insect and disease section as well as blackbird control techniques and integrated pest management section. The guide will be available in limited print format and online via the NSAC website.
An addendum has been issued for the sunflower herbicide chart from the Manitoba Guide to Field Crop Protection 2012. Please use the attached chart to help make herbicide choices this spring. The table is just a guide and you should always consult the product label for information including rates, water volumes and re-cropping restrictions. Throughout the last few years new products have been registered for use on sunflowers offering higher levels of weed control.
If you have any further questions, please contact Claire Kincaid at (204) 750-2555 or the marketing company for the herbicide in question.
Canadian sunflower growers will benefit from higher yields and increased competitiveness thanks to the support of the Government of Canada. Parliamentary Secretary Pierre Lemieux, on behalf of Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz, announced today an investment of $1.1 million to the National Sunflower Association of Canada to develop and market new seed varieties.
